Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.6.5 Update

On Wednesday, Apple released Mac OS X 10.6.5. It is the latest version of its Snow Leopard operating system. Some features are added into Mac OS X 10.6.5 for its user’s convenience. Among the most prominent additions in 10.6.5 are:

  • Improved reliability with Microsoft Exchange servers
  • Better stability and performance of graphics applications and games
  • More robust pairing with Apple’s Magic Track pad
  • Improved reliability of Ethernet connections

There is also added SSL support for iDisk connections and support for raw images from a metric ton of digital camera models. It also contains a number of security patches for Snow Leopard including:

  • Vulnerabilities in AFP Server
  • Quick Time
  • The X11 Operating System
  • Huge number of security holes in Adobe’s Flash Player plug-in

All of above are fixed by updating the plug-in to version Same fixes are available to Security Update 2010-007 and is available for the users of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and later.

There is also a release of 10.6.5 update for Mac OS X Server that it includes a number of enhancements and updates for the server software having the ability to manage iChat and iCall preferences. Along with these, it has:

  • Improved reliability for directory services
  • An updated version of PHP
  • Ability of software update services to permit administrators to host older software updates after a new version is released
